MEET OUR FOUNDER

Hi I’m Hetty and I’m the owner of Etta Lingerie and Nightwear on Mill Street in Oakham.

 

Firstly, I am a mother. I am often exhausted, overwhelmed, overstimulated and a bit ‘fed up’ but on the flip side, I am motivated, determined, strong and frankly, capable of just about anything.

The first of my two children was born with Down Syndrome and a very complex heart defect. Through watching her struggles to simple survive in this world, I found myself realising just how fortunate we are to simply be in ‘good health’.

Seeing her so unwell but still smiling with her twinkly eyes, it made me change. No longer will I look in the mirror and poke my belly, snarl at my complexion and moan about my looks. I am healthy, I am strong and I am proud. I never want my children to grow up seeing mummy hide herself, or call herself names. If I do it, they’ll only think that’s ok and do it to themselves. We are their role models..

I used to look in the mirror and because I didn't like what I saw, I would cry and it would generally set my mood for the day. I took my health for granted and became wrapped up in vanity. I cared about what other people thought of me. It was not until I had a reason to cry that the realisation really set in.

Life is so precious, please do not spend it wishing you looked differently. Please never take a day for granted and remember..

I wanted to create a space where women can feel comfortable, celebrated, and expertly guided towards finding the perfect pieces to make them feel amazing. Without the pressure of needing to buy, sometimes it’s just nice to be in a shop that is pretty.

I am a fully trained bra fitter and I provide complimentary fittings to ensure every woman finds the perfect size and style for their unique shape and needs. I have set out to ensure everybody leaves feeling empowered and able to check their own bra fit. It isn’t something that should feel out of our control.

I believe that nice lingerie and beautiful nightwear is about celebrating you and nurturing the inner goddess in every woman.

Etta is a boutique, but it is also a haven for women to rediscover their inner strength and beauty.
